Ancient monk cell unearthed in Egypt

CAIRO, Egypt (Reuters) -- Renovators working in an ancient Egyptian monastery have unearthed the oldest example of a building housing Christian monks, a member of the restoration project near the country's Red Sea coast told Reuters on Monday.

Helicopter crash kills Alexandria Patriarch, Australian

Patriarch of Alexandria Peter VII, who is the second most senior figure in the Greek Orthodox Church, has been killed along with an Australian and 15 others in a helicopter crash in the Aegean Sea.

The Patriarch is the spiritual leader of Greek Orthodox Christians in
Africa. He had been heading to the Mount Athos monastery in northern Greece in an army helicopter when the aircraft disappeared from radar screens.

He was endorsed at the organisation?s Executive meeting on Wednesday June 16.

Mr Kassabgi, 22, is an experienced campaigner for the NSW ALP.

Washington (08/19/03)-- U.S. Copts Association was contacted by H.G. Bishop Yustus, the head of St. Anthonys Monastery in El Zaaferana, Red Sea Governorate today with disturbing news regarding the imminent destruction of the monasterys surrounding fence. In a telephone conversation with Mr. Michael Meunier, President of the Association, H.G. Bishop Yustus reported that over 300 soldiers, 18 bulldozers, and several heavily-armed trucks had surrounded the monastery poised to begin demolition of the fence.
